Dear Members:

I hope this message finds you well and you are enjoying the start of a warm and fun summer! I am writing to keep you informed about the Long Island CPCU Chapter, your local link to the CPCU Society. We have some exciting news to announce! Firstly, we are formally changing our name to the “Long Island CPCU Society Chapter, Inc”.  Secondly, thanks to the hard work of the Board in 2012 and 2013,our Chapter achieved “Gold Level of Recognition” in the Society’s Circle of Excellence Program. This is the first time in many years the society has achieved this recognition.

The board has been busy planning some new educational and networking events for 2014. In recognition of Ethics Month, in March, we hosted IIABNY’s Tim Dodge, self-proclaimed  “Insurance Geek” who presented “The Insurance Industry’s Ethics and How We Look From the Outside”.  It was our first time having Tim present at the Long Island Chapter event, and we received great feedback about the topic and his  engaging style.

Looking ahead, we are planning our annual summer networking event. This year, we are trying something new; an evening at a Ducks Game Party Deck on July 22nd!The event will be open to all CPCU members and their families and will include food and soft drinks.  As a thanks those of you who have paid your dues, your tickets will be discounted! Look out for the Flyer with the details on how to register.

In the Fall we will be having our Annual Local CPCU conferment and Officer Induction. Last fall, we welcomed nine new CPCU Designees, and this year, we will be awarding 10 more! Please visit our newly re-designed Long Island CPCU Chapter website at https://longisland.cpcusociety.org/ for a complete list of New Designees.

Finally, over the past two years, we have offered “Free” CPCU classes for to assist those wanting to earn their CPCU designation.  Our next offering will be CPCU 500—Foundations of Risk Management and Insurance. Classes will be held in Melville, NY starting Wednesday evenings in October. For more information, please contact Michelle Flaim at mflaim@travelers.com.

We are also planning on hosting other educational and networking events which will be announced shortly.

One of our major initiatives  for  2014 and 2015 will be to increase awareness in young people in the Insurance Industry as a  career. As many of the baby boomers begin to retire, it is crucial for our Industry to attract more talented people into the industry. More to come as we develop our plans.

Remember, you are a CPCU member, and  you earned designation which comes with a right to participate in our local chapter. If you are interested in joining a board meeting, please contact me or a Chapter Board Member or Officer.  You can view a profile of each member on our website!

I also encourage you to connect with us on LinkedIn or Facebook to keep up to date with future events.  And, if you haven’t yet paid your dues, please consider doing so! Go to www.cpcusociety.org to pay and  please make sure your contact details are up to date.

Sincerely,

Joseph Laimo, CPCU
